Hello I'm Lindsey Austin (she/her) and I am very excited to be back in my home community of Whycocomagh, Unama'kik/Cape Breton after being away for 20+ years. I have been a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) since 2003, graduating from Sutherland Chan Massage School and Teaching Clinic in Toronto. Since then, I have worked in several provinces across Canada including Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and now back home in Nova Scotia.
Over my 20 year career, I have gained knowledge and experience in a variety of different massage techniques including:
persistent/chronic pain management
pre and post natal massage
pre and post surgical care
acute pain management
stress/relaxation massage
sports massage for professional athletes and weekend warriors
kinesio taping
IASTR (instrumented assisted soft tissue release)
pelvic floor health
myofascial release
Growing up in this community I was very active, playing every sport that was offered which led me to playing varsity hockey at university. While there, I ended up in the therapy room quite often with knee pain (being a goalie), which drew me to importance of proper biomechanics and taking care of my body. After this I knew I wanted to pursue a career in helping people like I was helped. After university and massage school my sports life shifted from team sports to individual and I explored the sport of triathlon where I ran all distances from Sprint to Ironman and loved every minute of it .
I take an evidence based clinical approach to my practice and find it very effective in providing the right treatment for your needs, whether it be a therapeutic firm treatment for specific pain or a gentle relaxation treatment for an overstimulated nervous system.
I really enjoy treating people of all walks of life and I have treated people from ages 2 to 102.
When I am not working you can either find me in the woods hiking or running with my family, walking local beaches, biking around our beautiful countryside or playing in the mud on my pottery wheel
